Source of issue –Marine Plus customer - Robstan
Description –
Marine Plus customer, Robstan installed CDZ9-093, it cracked. Dave (from Marine Plus) said that it had happened twice last year and they had informed us. BL,RG and DK have no record of this occurring.
OCT17: Darwin Shipstores had the same issue. Refer to the attached photo (DSC_0595). Issue re-opened. We believe this anode was supplied by Technoseal. Again we replaced the snapped anodes and informed Technoseal of the fault.
21DEC17: Technoseal undertook investigation (refer to email/photos/video dated 21DEC17, prova cod 00728) they have come across this before but only when the anode housing is not properly cleaned of marine growth. Cannot tighten the bolt to force it to fit area must be clean first.
Immediate action –Supplied 3 replacement segments.
Root cause –Either faulty anode or tightening too much.
Corrective action –
26AUG16: Need to identify supplier. Marine Plus have stock from 2 suppliers:
Technoseal if purchased before AUG16 (2 that broke from last year were from Technoseal)
Martyr if they purchased after AUG16.
Marine Plus purchased 14 in August 2016. If Marine Plus sold these anodes to their customer in AUG16, they were purchased from Martyr.13SEP16: BL visited Marine Plus and receive sample, snapped at the hole. We have not had this problem from any other customer, so we will leave this CAR open for another 12 months. If it happens again, we will investigate further.
Also note that the OD of the anodes from the 2 different suppliers varies by about 1.5mm and neither ring is round.
18OCT17: Informed Technoseal of the fault. Refer to their investigation email/photos/video dated 21DEC17, prova cod 00728
These anodes are prone to cracking. The hole is large compared to the cross section. If they are locked down too tightly, they will eventually crack, especially if build up of marine grown, dirt or sand is not effectively removed prior to installing anode. A small warning note is to be included with each anode sold and a warning will be included in the next issue of the catalogue.
leave open for 12 months to see if problem re-occurs
