Source of issue –Supplier: TNT/FedEx
Description –
06SEP22: TNT collected a skid of Mg rod anodes for Wilson Industries (Cust PO 45306, Inv 56518). The anodes overhang the edges of the skid. We have delivered like this for many years without issue.
14SEP22: Wilson Industries (Rose) let us know that the delivery was yet to arrive.
15SEP22: Some backwards and forwards, as TNT not aware why it was held in depot. They suspected it may be due to overhang of skid. Late 15SEP22 Chris Dickman confirmed that it was due to overhang. He asked if we would like it returned for re-packaging.
16SEP22: BL replied, "I think it is incumbent on TNT to inform customers of the changes to your guidelines prior to collection. Then we can make a decision on whether we can comply with the new guidelines or find a suitable alternative.
Since you have collected the goods, please dispatch them to our customer ASAP and forward us a copy of the new guidelines."
Late on 16SEP22, our Account Manager, Simon Whyte, confirmed that the anodes would be collected and delivered to our customer. They also provided a pdf of the guidelines, "FedEx Not Fit to Travel Master".
Immediate action –Wilson Industries urgently needed some of the ordered anodes, we sent them another order (with TNT) but the particular anodes they required did not overhang, so they recieved them in good time. This got them out of trouble.
Root cause –TNT should not have collected if there was an issue with the packaging.
Corrective action –
1. Wilson Industries were very understanding. The second shipment got them out of trouble.
2. Training. The document from TNT outlining what they will/will not collect has been reviewed and understood by CAA staff involved with packing/shipping.
3. When costing, TNT can no longer be used if there is any overhang.
