Source of issue –Taylor Marine
Description –
05OCT15: Taylor Marine WA customer returned 1 x CDZ8-10H anode, said that they did not corrode at all. They posted it back to us for analysis.
Immediate action –Taylor Marine gave their customer 2 replacements from their stock
Root cause –Anode not correctly attached
Corrective action –
The anode was returned (heat number 090414). We analysed button samples A and B as well as a section cut from the actual anode. All test pieces were compliant with AS2239 Z1 (refer to Russell Northey email dated 13OCT15). The 4 points where the steel core of the anode made contact with the washers that were used to tighten down the anode all show signs of marine growth (refer to photos in Ross Gorfine email dated 13OCT15). The amount of marine growth, where it should be relatively clean steel indicates that the anodes were not tightened down effectively when they were installed, meaning minimal electrical continuity was minimal.
Verification –Spectrometer results (see email dated 13OCT15)
