Source of issue –Sun Metal
Description –
We placed order 16255 on 05DEC18 for 14 tonne of SHG Zinc Ingot. Sun Metals dispatched on 06DEC18, ETA was 10DEC18. When ingot had not arrived on the 11DEC18, we were informed that it would not be delivered until the 14DEC18 due to NSW and QLD bushfires and associated signal issues on the train line.
We understand that deliveries are delayed, but Toll did not inform us of the delay, which had significant consequences with delays to numerous customers. They should have informed us ASAP.
Immediate action –?
Root cause –Lack of communication by Toll.
Corrective action –
Matthew Ferns from Sun Metal suggested that one tonne of ingot be kept in Brisbane for us, as a small back-up stock.
20FEB19: Sun Metals have changed their system so that they always have a 25T consignment in Brisbane as back up stock.
We have had no issues since this incident and Sam Pohlman is placing PO's early which is giving Sun Metals/Toll more time to meet the delivery schedule.
