Source of issue –Customer - Kellie Ward (Parts Co-Ordinator)
Description –
We supplied 500 x CDZ9-036 as per PO 014362, our inv 60323 (on the 14DEC23). On the 20FEB24 Kellie emailed a Photo (attached) of 4 anodes which were cut and had significant air bubbles.
Immediate action –LS emailed back indicating we would replace free of charge + provided detailed explanation of cause.
Root cause –Caused by air bubbles (porosity) trapped within the molten metal.
Corrective action –
We individually weigh these castings to try and best identify light castings but some slip through from time to time. We need to be more vigilant with casting at correct temperature and weighing a higher proportion post casting.
28AUG24: So many variables that can be the cause of bubbles. By weighing these castings, we can identify those with bubbles and re-melt straight away. Hydraulics are being upgraded in Pressure Diecasting Machine. This should reduce the issue by addressing 1 variable (of many). NOTE: Need to add weighing as a cost into Brainstorm.
Verification –No further incidents recorded in past 12 months.
