CDZ8-12-125S Strap Length

    Date – October 4, 2019
Source of issue –Supplier/Receipt of Goods
    Description –

AMA/Demco (new supplier) cut about 200 x 40x5 MS steel straps to the incorrect length (10mm short). Craig contacted Sam. Sam suggested that rather than scrap the inserts, we can use them for the CDZ8-12-XXX range of anodes. They would be 10mm shorter than what is indicated in the catalogue and on the drawings, but they could be used for customers who need holes punched in them, so the shorter length is not important.
The intention was to quarantine these straps as soon as they arrived, and mark them accordingly, so that they did not get used for standard anodes. Unfortunately, we had a job (for Chalmers Marine in NZ) which required these inserts and they were taken straight from the truck to the casting area. The anodes were cast before the straps could be quarantined.

Immediate action –BL contacted Allen Chalmers. Allen was OK with the shorter straps
Root cause –AMA cut to incorrect length. CAA did not quarantine straight away.
    Corrective action –

Short Term: Allen Chalmers was made aware straight away and was happy to accept them.
Long Term: Sam has quarantined the remaining 150 inserts, rather than dumping them in the scrap bin. They are marked accordingly to avoid any potential re-occurrence.
