Source of issue –Customer: Marine Plus
Description –
Jordan Trusty from Marine Plus emailed photo of CDZ4-100 with the proud threaded hole pulled out and a hollow on the inside (see pic). This can occasionally happen at the commencement of a casting run when the die or the zinc are not adequately heated.
CAA used to weigh each diecast anode. If they are light, it is an indication of internal voids. Some years ago weighing was halted to save $$. In AUG23 LS re-instigated weighing to prevent poor quality product leaving our factory. This anode must have been cast prior to the commencement of weighing.
Immediate action –Replace anode
Root cause –Die or Zinc cast too cold
Corrective action –
1. Replace anode. BL explained cause and solution to Jordy. He was satisfied with explanation.
2. Continue to weigh die cast anodes once cast.
28AUG24: Weighing post casting is now part of the process. If they are below weight they are thrown back in the furnace. No similar instances have been reported since OCT23, so this CAR will be closed.
