Description –
Aluminium CDA-3100x216x150 anode cast 18/11/2019 to Quote S161019C & CAA DRG CD4015 R1. Post casting QA measurement checks determined slot ctrs were 2540mm against nominated 2560mm. This may have been caused by differential contraction rates between the Al and mild steel or deflection of the insert round bar away from ctr line.
Immediate action –Hole centres were just within tolerance for this job.
Root cause –This may have been caused by differential contraction rates between the Al and mild steel or deflection of the insert round bar away from ctr line.
Corrective action –
To avoid this and any future issues surrounding nominated mounting ctrs and with respect to undefinable contraction/deflection issues, we will nominate longer slots so as to ensure that the customers nominated mounting ctrs are achieved upon solidification of the anode.
This will also apply for any nominated round hole ctrs where CAA need to advise the customer that due to casting considerations outside of CAA’s control (contraction/deflection) we nominate slots instead of round holes.
Please apply this allowance/methodology to flush mount straps and round core on ctr line with flat tabs as per attached 2 examples.
