Source of issue –Warren from C-Volt Electrical (29 Equinox Crt Mudgeeraba QLD 4213)
Description –
RS-15 Serial No. 2406 442 689
SEP24: Warren purchased a RS-15 Rust Seeker (Serial No DUNCAN TO ADVISE). He took a reading with his Rust Seeker and got a result of -800mV. Someone at the marine (Name ?) also had a Rust Seeker which he had just purchased. With the same multimeter it was giving a result of -950mV. He sent back the Rust Seeker, currently waiting for Duncan to undertake initial testing.
10JUL25: SP tested the faulty RS-15 v a new one in the lab. New one = -962mV and -960VmV. The faulty one had a reading of -550mV. Refer to the attached photo, the blue on the SS case is from the booklet. It appears that a solvent may have contaminated the gel thru the ceramic tip.
10JUL25: DF pulled the electrode apart and discovered that it had no Gel.
BL rang ionode (Victor) who said that the Gel did have a high chloride content and would likely cause the ink on the booklet to come off (as it has done).
BL rang Warren from C-Volt, 0400 753 646 to explain. He has the replacement one and it is working well, giving the same readings as the other person at the marina.
He said that another company that contracts to him will buy another one soon, so he is clearly still happy with the product.
Immediate action –Sent a replacement RS-15 free of charge with a return post bag.
Root cause –Gel Leaked out
Corrective action –
No action at this stage.
Verification –Keep this incident in mind, in case it re-occurs.
