Source of issue –Strategic Marine
Description –
Strategic Marine o/n SMVPO_031209 arrived in yard (Vietnam). Nhat Le Huu inspected the anodes and found very fine cracks on the casting surface. He emailed (18FEB16) a photo to Jody and requested an explanation.
Immediate action –Jody replied via email (23FEB16) explaining that cracks are within specification and all CAA anodes undergo strict inspections. He sited NACE RP0387... "cracks greater than 2.5mm wide will be rejected". The fine cracks were well below 2.5mm wide.
Root cause –Customer not familiar with anode casting specification
Corrective action –
None. As of 29FEB16, customer has not replied and appears happy with Jody's explanation.
